I am now a Civil Servant. I joined the Department of Work and Pension digital department in the Manchester Hub, has a Senior Front-End Developer in April 2019. It's an exciting opportunity and one I am very excited to be a part of has I will be helping to reimagine the digital public service.
It's a great opportunity to work in a collaborative digital hub with the latest tools and technologies, helping to make a positive difference to the lives of millions of people that uses the digital public service.
I work as part of a supportive and closeknit product team, working closely and very collaborative with our UX Researcher, Interaction Designer, Content Writer, QA, Product Owner, Devops, Agile Lead, Developers, and BA's.
Founder and Mentor
On International Women’s Day 2019, I officially launched CodeandStuff (codeandstuff.co.uk) , a coding and networking community for Women and non-binary code newbies and developers in Manchester with weekly events, as I am very passionate about introducing more people into tech and coding, especially women.
I believe that if we want to achieve a tech world with gender equality, representation matters, and I believe that creating a safe weekly space for women in tech and learners where they can learn, with talks, workshops, and connecting code newbies to strong, smart, independent developers in tech is a step in the right direction and a way forward to help balance the scale.
Founder
In September 2018 during National Coding Week, I launched CodePossible (codepossible.org) a platform for those interested in learning how to code. Because I want as many people as possible to take part and try out coding and perhaps they will find that they have a hidden talent because successful coding is about logic.
Code Possible is an educational information platform, with a growing library of learning platfroms, and a collection of getting started information in regards to starting a career as a developer.
I hope my passion for educating and for helping people to learn can inspire others to learn to code and perhaps, like me, have a life-changing successful transition into a career in tech.
Future List 2019
In November, 2018 I was very surprised and honoured to be nominated for the NorthernPowerWowen Future List due to my work with the local tech community, CodePossible, and my mentoring work in helping to get more people expecially women into tech. I was very happy to find out I made the list in Febuary 2019.
I think it's important to champion role models in the North because I was raised by a phenomenally strong woman and have been surrounded by powerful females my entire life and each one has helped shaped me into who I am today. So I strongly believe that representation matters and it’s important that women who are achieving help create a supportive network for other, to empower them to know if they can dream it and are willing to do the work, they can be it.
Ones to watch 2019
I was very happy to hear that I was chosen and added to the CodeFirst:Girls - Ones to Watch 2019 list. The list includes 25 women under 30 doing impressive work in tech and entrepreneurship, and celebrate their career choices and hope to encourage more to follow in their footsteps.
I am very honoured to be included and more motivated to share more on my journey into and reality in tech to help empower more people expecially the younger generation to consider a career in tech.
